Well, I guess they aren't exactly "pickings" ~ as in "Bootheel Pickers" (that's what I'm going to start calling Mr. B and myself ~ ;), since they were ours to begin with, but it has been so long since I've seen some of these things, it seems like it!
Here are some of the things we carried home last night...
This pretty little match holder has "Pat'd Jan. 15, 1861" on the back...
My Mom's little grinder (probably from the 40's)...it was my job to grind up pecans
if she was using them in a recipe;
I don't remember it ever being used for anything else.
Look at that sweet little rose decal!
This Bellodgia perfume (a pretty carnation fragrance) ad is from the 30s...
I was going to mat and frame it "one day".
Now that I've re-found it, this will have to go on my never-ending
to-do list...
This was my Mom's little book...I feel so fortunate to have so many books
from her childhood in the late 20s and early 30s.
They were probably all pristine until my Grandma let me "color" some of the
black and white illustrations when I was really small...(Grandma!!) ~ ♥
Here is one of my favorite Little Bear illustrations...
"Come fish! Come fish! Come to my little brown paw"... That's Cyrus's little brown tail in the photo...kitty help; it's a good thing!
Okay, these aren't antique, but they're 6 or 7 years old, and I'm finding more and more
that I forget most of what I read, anyway, so it's like having a whole
stack of new magazines!

These are some of the things Mr. B brought
home...Umm...I'm going to take them
down to Warehouse 13 (our basement storage room)

Cyrus checks out every single new thing that is brought into the house...

Lovely assortment of treasures. I have so many of my mother's children's books, too. "Warehouse 13"...what a great name for the basement. I also have my mother's nut grinders, but they're not as cute as yours is. I wouldn't have recognized the match holder if you hadn't told what it was.
ReplyDeleteLove the children's books. What a treasure they are for you. Deb
ReplyDeleteGreat pickings! I have the same little grinder...with the rose decal too! I love that yours comes with memories. Mine comes from the thrift store! : )
ReplyDeleteThe match holder is a great piece!
What a sweet little book and how lovely that it belonged to your mum. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteJune
I have a couple of books from my childhood and I love them! :)
ReplyDeleteYou've got a great collection of "stuff" there!
I LOVE Cyrus checking everything out. He doesn't look all that impressed with Mr.B's stuff either and possibly has plans to drag them down to Warehouse 13 when no one is looking. LOL!
((Hugs))

OOHHH master pickings !!
ReplyDeleteGood scores
Lovely treasures. I love that little grinder. My Mammaw had a pecan tree right in her front yard in Mississippi and always had pecans in her freezer that we would snack on when we visited. Pecans never tasted so good as they did back then. It's always great to rediscover things you thought were long gone. Have a great week. Tammy
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful assortment of goodies you came home with! I remember nut grinders too...
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog! Hope to see you back soon.

How fun! The grinder is my fav!
ReplyDeleteNothing better than a "found" treasure you thought you "lost". My grandparents had a nut grinder, too and I still remember using it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for leaving such a nice comment on my blog yesterday. I can't wait to get to know you better!
