Witches and Pirates and Wizards, Oh, My!

Good Wednesday evening, everyone!

It's been a busy week around here; that's what I get for always being such an "Eleventh Hour" girl!

Last weekend was a busy one, as well; I painted faces at Civil War Days in
Columbus-Belmont State Park in Columbus, Kentucky, about an hour away.
It's a beautiful park on the bluffs above the Mississippi, and I always look forward to it...
However, about midnight Saturday (after I had steadily painted from about noon until seven),
a storm blew in and we were afraid our little tent wouldn't make it through the night,
so we packed up and came home...
I had planned to take lots of photos on Sunday, and that didn't happen ~ still, I have a
few that I'll share later...
For now, here's what's going on in my little corner of the world...
~
First, I need to explain.
My husband likes to decorate.
He goes to Dollar General and brings home all sorts of things,
most of which I sneak into my donation boxes for the kitty sanctuary ~ Safe Harbor ~ later.
(They have a thrift shop.)
One of the things today was this witch.
Bless his heart.
But, I will leave it up, he was so pleased with it.
I just won't be able to find it next year...;^)

Now, there is nothing wrong with Dollar General, not at all.
I am thrilled that there is a new one about a half mile from our house,
so I don't have to make the ten-mile round trip to Wal-Mart on the other side of town...
(not nearly as often, anyway...)
...for laundry and cleaning supplies and milk and bread...
I even bought a cool black lace-spider web table cloth from the Halloween
section in there last week...
However, there are a lot of things in the decorating department that I would pass up.
Lots.
Not Nelson.
We even have a rubber dismembered hand and several eyeballs.
And some motion-activated ghosts that moan in one of my fig trees on the front porch.
This is what happens when I wait too long to decorate.

;^)

This afternoon when passing through the kitchen, I saw Tallulah creeping very slowly
toward the front door, the hair on her tail and ruff standing out bottle-brush-style...

She had spied the witch...

She sat and stared and stared at it...

Then she reached for it... I held her up so she could see what it was...

Later on I came back through, and she was still sitting there, staring at it...:)
Silly Lulah.
She's wondering about our delightfully tacky taste in witches.
(If you know Mr. B, don't tell on me...)

Here's what I'm working on for this coming weekend,
Vulture Fest in Makanda, Illinois.
A use for the little short heirloom okra pods!

My makeshift work-table...

And finally, a work-in-progress...
Tallulah the Witch, Cyrus the Pirate, and Leo the Wizard...
I'm hopefully going to get this done in time to "Zazzle" it into Halloween cards...(just pencil so far)...
I plan to use watercolor for the underpainting, and finish it with Prismacolor pencils ~
(Fingers crossed!)
Hope everyone has a great Thursday!

  1. I think Lulah is pretty sane compared to my 3 cats. Lulalh is looking at something that actually exists. My 3 can often be found staring at a blank spot on the wall for hours. I have check over the years, thinking my vision must be going bad, and there is no bug or anything that should warrent such intent stares. This accounts for the saying "A cat can look at a King".
I absolutely love the drawing of your 3 Halloween cats. I already thought you had a great imagination, but after I saw the okra pod vultures, I have a new standard for imaginative. Who ever would have thunk it - okra pod vultures! AMAZING!

  10. BEAUTIFUL!!! LOVE the vultures, and I know the painting will be fabulous. I love that your husband actually likes to decorate...most guys (mine included) would rather not be bothered with getting stuff out. He sounds like a keeper! Happy Thursday - XOXO

  12. You never cease to amaze me with your creativeness. Even your works in progress look spooktacular! What a laugh I had over your hubbies witch decoration, even the cat is not sure about having her around! TeeHeHee!
My pup noticed some black paper owl cut outs I taped onto my mirror in our house and he started to growl and bark. My daughter picked him up and put his face up close for him to get a better look and he is OK now! Too funny! <3

  13. Anne,
You are so amazingly talented! I never get tired of seeing what you create.
Tallulah is hilarious! Once we had a cat statue on the front porch, and Hunny saw it for the first time, he had to run low to the ground through the house, with his ears FLAT to his head. I had to bring it in so he could see that it wasn't real....

  19. Dollar Geneneral is a mixture of good stuff and some tacky, but it is handy for me too.In fact my hubby used to be a DM for them. Your cat is busy protecting her home from invaders I see. I love the okra pods-you are very talented. I am now following.

  20. Dearest Anne - this is the best post - it makes me smile and keep smiling. For one I can see you hiding Nelson's decorations (believe me I can relate) and Tallulah is absolutely adorable. Your drawing is superb and I am anxious to see it finished. Thanks for making my day! xo Pix

  21. That's just so funny. You're lucky that your husband helps you with decorating. I'm all by myself here as the kids and hubby can't undertand my need to decorate and redecorate... more house for me to play with, I say ahahah

    I love Tallulah's reaction.

There's a mention to you in my place.

    Have a Wonderful Weekend!
