Oh, Look! Fairy Watermelons!

Look, look!

 Someone (another Fairy gardener?)

left our Fairy some little watermelons on her front steps!

Wee little Watermelons!

(Makes you want to say "Wee Wittle Watermelons", doesn't it?)

Actually, they are Cucamelons...

Also called MOUSE MELONS, which is even cuter than "Fairy" ones, I think!

Aren't they sweet?

You can read more about them here...I ordered the seeds from this company, Terroir Seeds ~

after seeing them on Pinterest.

I probably should have fed them a little Miracle Grow...

But I have been so BAD this year...things in the garden have been pretty much on their own.

They did okay, though.

They are green inside, and taste like cucumbers...

and a little like watermelon (the part near the rind).

Perfect Fairy Watermelons!

We've been picking lots of green beans...

I used to dislike this chore very much, pinching the ends off

and snapping the beans!

I kind of enjoy it now, though ~ and I really like how fresh green beans taste...

Grandma Collier and Grandma Launius used to can oodles and oodles of them,

and during the same time we would have them at meals...

(With tiny little "new" potatoes and seasoned with ham)

Never got tired of them, though!

The zinnias are still going strong in the garden...

(They would produce even more flowers if I would go out and cut some bouquets!)

We have had so much rain for the past week...

The flowers and vegetables are loving it!

Okay, a few kitty pictures...;)

These aren't great (indoor, night photos) ~

But Cyrus and Tallulah were so cute, napping together.

Leo was off somewhere else, probably hanging out with one of the boys.

He much prefers them to me...I do the baths and the grooming...

Not popular things with the boy cats.

Of course, I also feed and scoop, but I guess they think that's beside the point!

Tallulah..."Wittle Wuwah", I call her.

She loves me and hangs out with me, even though I AM the bather...

I've been having such fun with these! That Tallulah ~

She gives art lessons, piano lessons, bakes...;)

Getting ready to list the last one on eBay tonight!

That's all for now...back to painting.

Have a good evening, all!

Love,

  1. Oh my gosh...those cucamelon's are adorable. I have never seen them before. I love snapping green beans but have not snapped in years. Fresh green beans and potatoes from the garden makes for mouth watering eating. A reward for gardening. I love your kitty's and their names...especially Tallulah. :) The ACEO's are each miniature masterpieces. ♥

  6. Ooooooooo! ! ! ! What a perfect summer-time gift for the front doorstep of a little fairy house! Never heard of them, but they appear to have been created just for the sole purpose of cute-ning up and already too-cute fairy house! Some little fai must be smiling ear to ear right now! I may have to try to remember to find/grown them next year, also!

And don't even get me started on those little fur-children of yours! Always gorgeous!

Thank you for sharing! How beautiful they grow with such dainty
tendrils!!! I have never seen anything like these before! You grow such wonderful and magical garden varieties. You keep me smiling while I struggle to keep what I can alive here in AZ. I am sooo enjoying my cypress vines and anticipating for when they will bloom here.
I LOVE the ACEO with the butterfly wings as you might guess! Enjoy as you continue to create such loveliness my friend!<3

  12. Dear Anne - I got to try growing those cucamelons (just right size for a pixie-lol) You always have the best posts and your fair house and kitties are adorable. I love snapping beans out on the porch in the evenings watching the flowers growing and seeing the birds enjoying the sunflowers. Ah summer - don't hurry too fast. Hope you enjoy the last of these great days. xoxo Pixie

  13. Okay, I'm fascinated by the cucamelons! I really need to look into that next summer. I always like to see pictures of your cats, they're beautiful. I wonder if kids now a days have the experience of sitting outside snapping beans. Some of my favorite memories are of me and the neighbor grandma and the talks we'd have while snapping beans.

  14. Your tiny melons are perfect for your fairy gardens. Never saw them before. Your green beans looks so deliciously fresh. I bought some yesterday at the grocery store, not cheap... It's the first year I didn't plant any.

Your kitties are so adorable, even the one who is not amused that you took his picture, lol.
    Have a fairy nice weekend.
    Hugs,
    JB

  17. Love the little melons (I planted regular melons this yr and that is how they look) Love the Fairy Houses as always and of course the kitties too. I just rescued 4 kitties and the mom (posted about it in my blog last night) All fur babies are special aren't they? :)

  18. So cute! Who cares if they taste good, they're cute! Do you have to cut them open like a watermelon and leave the rind, or do you pop the whole thing in your mouth? I thought they were polymer clay watermelons when I first saw them.

...and your fairie cottages are always amazing!

How neat that those cucamelons are edible! I would put them in a jar and label them Dragon Eggs or some such thing.....haha!

Your kitties are gorgeous babies, too.
