Zinnias!

Zinnias! This year is my first time ever to plant zinnia seeds...my dear friend Elaine and I saw some gorgeous ones last October at a pumpkin farm in Arkansas, so I put them on my mental "must try" garden-list...I'll have to admit, I wasn't too impressed with them at first...they were kind of straggily-looking for quite a while... They must love sun and HEAT, though, because now they're robust and blooming profusely...(even without the Miracle Grow...I just gave them some last night, so who knows...it may be "Katie bar the door" in a couple of weeks! I'll keep you posted!) ~ :)

I set these up out on the front porch yesterday afternoon late, just as the sun was starting to set...you can see that glow on them!
I think this looks like a watercolor (top), don't you?

SOMEONE needs to do a Rain Dance here...it is SO dry...(I saw our little Missouri Bootheel colored in red for "severe drought" on the national news this morning)...we just can't seem to water enough.

Things are hanging in there, but barely...our tomatoes and squash are still producing amazingly well, though some of the plants look pit-i-ful...

The cotton looks good, however ~ because it's planted around every subdivision and farmer's "holdout" inside the city limits, it's the only crop I've seen. Farmers have to be suffering, too, though.

Almost every day for the past couple of weeks it clouds up and looks like it might rain, but it always passes over...

Soon, hopefully...fingers crossed!

Hope everyone has a great Wednesday! Wish us a rainy one!

  5. I love zinnias. My Granny always planted z's every year and every time I see one, or look into my garden (yes, I have a few) ... I'm reminded of her. Drought ... a horrible word. We went through extreme drought last year and I am still watching trees die despite the rain that we have had this year. And some say there is no global warming...........................

  6. They look lovely, and the first pic does look like a watercolour. I had the same response to them as you did the first time I planted them, but once they get established they are a treat.

  7. Oh, you give me hope! We planted zinnias from seed this year for the first time, too, and they are sort of in the scraggy stage - just one huge bloom and lots of green leafy stuff - but multiple blooms are our hope. Though, I always worry about clipping them - that they won't bloom again and I'd be left with big old green stalks of leaves! Yours are lovely!
    Joy!

  15. Maybe I should try zinnias in my backyard. If they don't require any care they should do just fine.

  19. Hi Anne! Thanks for the follow.
Google Reader is a much easier way to manage the blogs you follow. If you add blogs directly into the Dashboard, it does max out at three hundred. But you can still add more by clicking the GFC or adding them to your Google Reader. Give it a try - think you'll really like using it.

  21. Zinnias are such good cut flowers! We always had them when I was growing up.

Sending wishes for rain for you. We have had some just about every day for the past week. I fear it's a bit too late to do the corn much good, though.:(

  23. Hi Anne: Things are sure strange weatherwise all over. Some are building arks and some are turning to dust. Mother Nature needs to get her **^% together. Your zinnias do not look like they are suffering though. They are just beautiful and one of my favorites for arranging..Happy Wednesday..Judy
